Asking for action from Cardiff Council

1000013953
Following the consultation in September 2024 the Severn Grove/ Romilly Crescent/ Conway Road Community Flood Plan group have asked the Council for action to help reduce flood risk and improve our streets.

The actions include sucking out blocked gullies, rectifying poor road drainage and removing pavement trips due to tree roots lifting paving, a proposed rain garden on Romilly Crescent and crown lifting of some street trees. We sent a  report to the Council setting out all the issues in November 2024.

We are glad to report that all accessible gullies in our streets were cleared last month (see photo)- so thanks to the Council for this. We are liaising with them on the other issues.

We sent a more detailed report on trees touching houses or with low branches over front gardens in March 2025- asking the Council to carry out careful trimming of small branches and/or crown lifting. We appreciate the many benefits of large trees which enhance our otherwise hard urban area- so don’t want them removed or mutilated, just carefully managed.

We will report on progress in the coming year.
Both reports are now placed on our Community Flood Plan web page.

Community event 21 Sept

People attending the flood plan exhibition

Community Flood Plan event a success

The drop-in event was attended by around 50 people curious to find out about the proposed flood plan including residents of the three streets and from surrounding areas. There was a really positive response to the exhibition and plan and an encouraging number of residents put their name down for joining the flood group and others for receiving further information. Flooding issues, associated problems and possible solutions were raised and these will inform the flood plan which will be finalised over the coming months.

A big thank you to all who came along and to the volunteers who ran the event.

If you would like to find out more please email us- see contact details.

New resources pages

leaflet turned

The website has been changed to include a Resources section. This still includes important flood information before and during a flood.

However, it now also includes a resource for those who want to prepare their own community flood plan in Cardiff.  There are links to the NRW website and documents developed by the Severn Grove, Romilly Crescent and Conway Road Community Flood Plan group such as a template for a flood plan, leaflets, notices and a process and outcome report on a community drop in event. These are generally in MSWord format and are free to download and amend.

We hope you find the resources useful. Any queries, contact
