Flash surface water flooding July 2025 -a timely warning

The short downpour on 31 July caused a lot of deep puddles -see above- almost reaching houses at the bottom of Severn Grove and completely blocking the pavement next to the Coop. As part of the Community Flood Plan some of us unblocked the gullies by raking out the lime flowers and yucca leaves- see video below.
To avoid the drains blocking and damaging surface water flooding in future it would be good if we all sweep our nearest gutters and pavements and keep the gullies clear, and, when dry, (white) bag up the lime flowers and leaves for removal by Cardiff Council or take to the tip. The Council cannot access the gutters when cars are parked there so it is down to us to help ourselves (unfortunately). Hope that sounds like a sensible idea.

Asking for action from Cardiff Council

Property resilience to flooding meeting- 10 February 2025

There was a meeting on 10th February to give pointers to householders about how they might make their properties more resistant and resilient to flooding. We had some speakers from Cardiff Council and a former public realm flood consultant who lives locally.
This was a shared meeting between Severn Grove/ Romilly Crescent/ Conway Road, and Kings Road Community Flood Plans.
Presentations and Q&A notes are are attached here:

On the morning the Council have asked us to focus on clearing leaves from pavements and around cars, and either push the leaves into the middle of the road or put into sacks. The council staff will then clear the leaves from the road and empty sacks into the back of the vehicles.
Please see the poster attached for full details. It would be great if you could print this, preferably in colour, and put it up in your front windows.
Community event 21 Sept

Community Flood Plan event a success
The drop-in event was attended by around 50 people curious to find out about the proposed flood plan including residents of the three streets and from surrounding areas. There was a really positive response to the exhibition and plan and an encouraging number of residents put their name down for joining the flood group and others for receiving further information. Flooding issues, associated problems and possible solutions were raised and these will inform the flood plan which will be finalised over the coming months.
A big thank you to all who came along and to the volunteers who ran the event.
If you would like to find out more please email us- see contact details.
New resources pages

The website has been changed to include a Resources section. This still includes important flood information before and during a flood.
However, it now also includes a resource for those who want to prepare their own community flood plan in Cardiff. There are links to the NRW website and documents developed by the Severn Grove, Romilly Crescent and Conway Road Community Flood Plan group such as a template for a flood plan, leaflets, notices and a process and outcome report on a community drop in event. These are generally in MSWord format and are free to download and amend.
